Jodhpur is the second largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan and is located on the edge of the Thar desert. Since there is sunlight most days of the year, it is known as the City of the Sun and most of the houses here are painted blue, which is why it is also known as the Blue City. The history of Jodhpur begins in AD 1459 when it was founded by Rao Jodha de los Rathores.
Jodhpur is well connected to other major cities by road, rail and air. Jodhpur has an airport 5 km from the capital and has regular flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Udaipur. The Jodhpur railway network is part of the northwest and is connected to all major cities in India. RSRTC buses and luxury private vehicles connect you to the large neighboring cities.

Some of Jodhpur's famous restaurants are located near the Jalori Gate and Sardar Market and serve fish, kebab, dal, paneer and roti. There are many good hotels to stay in and some of the old palaces have been converted into historic hotels. They're expensive, but they're the perfect destination for weddings and other social gatherings. A good hotel is the Ranbanka Palace built by Maharaja Ajit Singh. Rajasthani cuisine is served here and processions of dancers, elephants, camels, and horses are seen depicting the country's ancient heritage.
If you're looking for a cheap hotel, you can find it on Station Road, near the clock tower and near Ummed Chowk. Jodhpur is a relatively safe city to stay in. Since the summer season is very hot with its desert climate, it is recommended to visit the city in winter. There are nearby exits worth visiting such as Jaisalmer, Mount Abu, Luni Fort, Osiyan and Udaipur.
